The enter button on the splash page really needs to be bigger. People usually link their main graphic and some text that says "Click here to enter" - just so people don't get confused.
The rest of the site just seems to be just a little bit off throughout. It doesn't seem to me that the graphics really work together well - pretty much all of them really. It just looks like they were created for different designs. I do like the "About Andy" page - that's got a nice layout. I like the way the photos and text box lie on top of the horizontal lines in the background. I think that you should change your other pages to look like that. (BTW, it looks especially tacky when pictures with black backgrounds lie on top of those horizntal lines and cover them up)
Instead of using blockquotes to indent your page, center the table instead. That will make it look much better at larger resolutions.
When you link to a larger version of the image, you should have the larger image appear in a page that resembles the rest of your site (with links so that people don't have to use the back button). You could use a pop-up with a black background, or put them in your regular site template. The pop-ups you used for the trees project have scrollbars in them (for me, anyway). That should be fixed.
The inset scroling news thing also needs to go - it's too small to be useful. Just make it plain text on the page. Also, if your page background is black, don't ever set any of your link colours to black (you've got black vlinks, which, of course, can no longer be read once the user has clicked on them and come back to the page)
Overall I think your site has potential. I like the colour scheme and the lines in the background.
Thank you for your constructive comments. I will take your points under consideration. Some of them I think I was aware of, but needed to hear it from another source. Some of them such as the larger resolution issue, I don't think I have adequately considered. I think I agree with most of your suggestions though.
I do agree that the Vlink is problematic. Any suggestions? I can't seem to find a color that works well with the rest of the scheme. I have tried many.
I'm not sure why you object to the scrollbars on the trees project pop-ups. Perhaps you could elaborate on this.
You are entirely right about the graphics. Some are from previous incarnations, as the site has evolved and expanded.
Hi Andy,
Nice site I think it has alot of potential and it is interesting.
Jack is right I was kind of confused about what to click on,the splash page. I think the download times are good on your pages.
From a graphical standpoint:
On the links page I would do away with the round buttons. Everything else on your site is square or rectangular in nature and stand-alone,large round buttons don't seem to belong in your theme.
As for the colors, if you really like the mustard color I would go with maybe darker and lighter shades to accent it. Black is a neutral color so anything you choose would be okay, that is a matter of preference. With black I tend to like the blues, purples, and grays.
Colors do hold interest, but your photographs have alot of color already so I would be careful with putting too much more on your pages. Just my opinion.
Good going, keep up the good work.
