Here are some thoughts I think you will want to know as I browse the sites:
Flat Vidz:
I don't get what the background image has to do with the website. Maybe I'll find out.
That definitely says "FLAT VIDZ" but the other text is close to unreadable to me. It says "1 YEAR OLD AND STILL ____". I can't make out the last word. Good, clear explanation of the site on the front page. Good job.
The blue default links could be modified to suit the black background better. It clashes badly as it is. You could use some sort of logo/banner at the top of your pages so people don't forget where they're at and can put some sort of image to the website when they think about it. The flashy buttons on the side are really annoying to me.
Good organization of your content on the left. However, I really don't like the "BLOGGER" blog in the middle. You could just use HTML to take care of that, and it wouldn't look so, well, tacky.
Okay, at the end of my viewing, I still don't understand what the background image is representing. The website is a good start for the meat of the website, the content that is. However, the design needs a lot of work. Read through my comments above and hopefully you can make some progress.

The site is obviously about flatland bmx. Flatland bmx is commonly done in empty parking lots. I used the photo of a parking lot so that instead of seeing a flatland rider riding in a parking lot,you see my site. I don't really know how to explain that but hopefully you get my point.
The "flashy buttons" on the right that annoy you are my button partners. I've never bothered to change the link colors since it didn't really matter mcuh to me in the beginning. On the main page the unreadable word is " kickin' "
It looked nice when i typed it up (Graffiti typeface) but when i compressed it as a jpg it screwed up my image. I could always redownload the font i used and make a new image, but i just haven't since i have other stuff i'm doing to the site.
The blog template can easily be changed so that there isn't my profile photo and other stuff on it. I choose to leave it as is though because it won't kill people to use a scrollbar. I would however like to get the scrollbar changed to black/white so it matches with the scrollbar of the main page (index2.html)
At the top of ever page it says ".. Flat Vidz.." so i don't think people will forget where they are. I chose to use text instead of an image so that search engines will pick up on that text and i'll get more hits in them. So far i'm doing pretty good considering i managed just over 800 unique visitors and over 4,600 hits according to my counter

the blinking banner at the bottom of your first site is too disturbing,
there is not enough content on the home page to be indexed by search engines.

The first thing I notice is your using a fuzzy image for the backgroud but as the page loads that image is hidden beneath a black table background. The bgproperties="fixed" is a IE thing only, so i firefox and other browsers the background doubles up, not that you can see a lot of it but at bottom of the page you can see the roofs.
The splash page (first page) isn't needed as there isnt anything on there that isnt on the other page, apart from click here to enter

I will comment the second one...
Really nice layout, warm colours... clean and simple. Heading on the top page with clear explanation of what the site is about, I like that .

alright guys,i did some changes to Flat Vidz and i'm still doing changes as we speak. i'd love to hear what you guys think of the changes. I'm changing the background image once my friend and i get our dirt jumps finished (incase i neglected to mention,i actually ride bmx as do a lot of my friends.) i may change it sooner if i decide to use a different place for a background photo. i'll work on making the iste more firefox compatable really soon. when i originally made the site i didn't realize how big firefox is.

Not bad. But I hate the pop-ups!! Can you get rid of them? A lot of users are annoyed by them and that can discourage them from ever visiting your site again.

once i upgrade to paid hosting the pop ups will be gone. i don't understand how people get pop ups though. i'm still on windows 98se and i don't get any,but i've seen people with a lot newer comps and windows xp get a load of them. maybe it's my ie 6 + google toolbar.

Check my settings???
My settings ain't got none to do with it. Yes, I used google toolbar but as far as I know the google toolbar does not generate popups. So the popups are coming from your site http://flatvidz.tripod.com

i meant check your toolbar settings. it has a pop up blocker in it..
i know the pop ups come from my site, but google toolbar should block them like it does for me.

i didnt score any pop ups... oh, hang on... on second look i just scored one *sigh* BUT everything appears to be totally okay on osx's safari. id be keen to see the blog content take up that entire middle section, and the 'about me' text maybe on the side bar above your ads. im also hella fussy on alignment and i think if you maybe just right align your menu headers to match their dropdown menus, and maybe keep your other headers dead center it should seem a little more fluid.
i get the background u have up. its kinda kewl - reminds me of exactly the sorta audience you are hitting... the kids rockin in the suburbs *nods* your certainly focused on your content, and i think you'll grab exatcly who you want. everyone who spins on a bmx like you guys will always be keen on local biking talent wherever they may be!

I cannot say anymore about the first site that hasnt already been said so I will comment on the second site.
Love the feel but coloured text on a coloured background, for me, is quite hard to read. I see where your going with the pastle colour theme though.
Nice piccies - I found myself wanting details!! Explanations about the photo's might be nice. Things like - Why taken - location - subject - that sort of thing. Oh and for the professional or amature - what time of day.
