Your Software Wish List

I don't know about you but there are many occasions when I find myself wishing the software I'm using could do something it doesn't. Does that happen to you? Don't you wish you could add some features to make your life easier? What would they be?

Here are some of mine:

1. Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge has a really nice field in the "save" dialog box that lets you choose from a list of 10 or so recently accessed folders. Every program should have this - it's particularly handy when working on a large network.

2. Every program should have customizable keyboard shortcuts (a la Homesite). CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R for rulers in Flash drives me nuts.

3. All design programs should use the same keyboard shortcut conventions. I often find myself trying to use CTRL+T to bring up the Character palette in Photoshop or CTRL+R for rulers in Flash.

4. Flash should allow you to publish to a different directory from the one in which the .fla file is stored.

5. Adobe GoLive v. 4 should just suddenly and mysterisously stop working. Then everyone in my office would have to learn to write proper code. I think it's v. 4 - it might even be v.3!

I posted a thread like this about a year ago but nobody had a lot of ideas. Hopefully this time you all will have more to say. You will try to think of something, won't you? You can even make up completely new programs if you want Smiling It's all a fantasy world...

CTRL+W closes several applications, but not all. It should.

The redo shortcut is different in applications. I like CTRL+SHIFT+Z. None of this CTRL+R or CTRL+Y stuff.

I would like Notepad to react when I hit CTRL+A...

But I'm about to make a Notepad with that feature myself since I got envolved in the Delphi/Pascal bussiness Smiling Anybody want a copy when I finished it?

Intruiging question, something I'll have to think about. But initially, I'll say I dream/wish all software (I use) is bug-free and secure. Wouldn't that be a dream? Smiling

Thinking software!

You don't have to type it, just think it and bingo! its coded...

Could cause browser compatibility problems for those designers of an unstable nature though Smiling

Seriously though my wish would be for the FTP explorer in FrontPage to be a wee bit more user friendly. Allowing you to more easily control the site would be a big win....

I wish HTML would add tags that allowed some control over printing a page. Kinda like CSS for printers. Make my life a lot easier...

A few more regarding Flash:

I wish that it would let me lock my tool palette in docked position (I often accidentally un-dock it... annoying)

I wish that Flash would allow me to lock individual objects (like Illustrator does)

I wish that Flash would *not* ad its own points to a path previously drawn with the pen tool.

I wish that the library was *not* always in the way Wink

(maybe some of this was fixed in MX - I haven't had a chance to try it yet)

Related to no. 1, I wish that Adobe programs would *not* link that little logo at the top of the tool palette to a pop-up "About" page (another thing I often click on accidentally)
