Hi, im new to these forums. And i hope to become a frequent poster. There area lot of talented people around here.
I am 18 and im going to Manchester University (In UK) to study History.
So, to earn a few bonus points, i was hoping to make a little History site (on a free server). And i know having a history site may seem very sad to some, lol. But, thats what i wnat it to be on.
But the problemn is, i dont know the first thing about designing and making a website. And i dont rea;ly have the time to learn, not that i dont wnat to.
So, i would liike and need someone to design a site and code it for me.
But, im not paying im afraid. Its very hard to find people who will do this sort of thing for free, believe me , ive tried (a lot!!!).
But im hoping to get a good response to this thread. As its my last chance!! lol.
I have seen some brilliant designs already, eg.transio , etc..
I was hoping for something like this: game-realms.com
But i dont have the first notion of how to do it.
Can someone help, please???

Hi, Thermo,

I'm just repeating here what I told you on AIM so that others can benefit from the information:

The board is designed to help you -- try posting to the web authoring or layout boards, or if you wish to hire someone, you can post in the Marketplace.

The board isn't instant -- it's a longer process, and most people respond ON the board, not through email or instant messaging.

Best of luck with your project, do read through the forums. If you post your question about how to start in the web design forums, you'll get lots of help.

To start things off -- while the site that has inspired you looks really complicated, there are some basics working.

It's made of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It's built primarily using the tag (structurally).

What do you know? Graphics applications, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, et cetera. That will help people determine what sort of help to give you.

The tables are nested and hold the graphical interface within those nested tables, that gives the illusion of oddly shaped boxes.

If you examine the source code of sites that inspire you, you will begin to understand how they are put together.

Depending on your skill level, you may need to start with something more basic and build up.

Are you interested in learning how to do this so that you can build the site yourself or are you just looking for someone to do it for you? Do you have or have access to any type of html editor like Dreamweaver or Front Page?

Perhaps you should look into a blogging system or templates instead?

blogspot.com
livejournal.com

Then you can post your own content. Most free servers also have HTML generators that will allow you to create sites on the fly.

For professional level designs and web site development, though, you really won't find anyone to do it for free, unless you look around your school for someone who gets a kick out of this stuff.

Good luck!

Why couldn't you install it? Do you have a hosting arrangement? Most free hosts will not allow you to upload cgi scripts, though some do have a large number available.

If people are going to help you, you'll need to provide more information.

However, it's great that you're researching!

I had a look at the site you mentioned and is that not you listed on their as one of the administrators? Surely you must know something about websites to be an administrator??

nobody is gonna make you a web site for nothing, most of the people on this forum are in the web design business, that is exactly what it says - a business. Taking the time to make a site for somebody and not getting paid stops them working on other projects and ends up costing the designer money!

Just install Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. Getting the fundamendal basics figured out isn't that difficult really. It'll be a learning process, and you might get frustrated but you'll take a lot of pride from knowing that you made it all yourself Wink

Good luck mate Smiling

I have to say that without offering pay for a website you are in essence asking for a webmaster to give up money and time. This just isn't right and no matter if its for school or whatever really has no impact on that. Being lazy doesn't have to be your lack of action but instead it may be that you aren't thinking of other. Mainly us professionals trying to make a decent living Sad

ok ok, Im sorry i ever metioned it. I know i need to pay and stuff. But people just dont understand. Anyway, im Admin because i know a hell of a lot about forums and webmastering a site, not editoring it and constructing it, just running it. Sticking out tongue .

But thanks peopel.

Perhaps a solution would be to post in the MarketPlace that you need work done and offer something in return -- advertising on your sites, credit, et cetera.

If you're prepared to have a more realistic site based on your own skills, why not try to do it yourself?

Shame you didnt post this a few weeks earlier... i was looking for a couple of people to let me do their sites for free. Unfortunatly i got a couple of offers and i also have a load of paid work to do as well. Keep your eye out... people getting started in the business often advertise free design to expand their portfolio!
