Which forum to use?
I will soon be creating a forum for my website, and cannot decide which to go for...
I have basically narrowed it down between phpBB and InvisionBoard, but can't decide which one... so here are some general questions I had:
- Which one is better on system resources, if there is a major difference
- Which one is easier to customize? I am a PHP programmer and could easily customize both... but which one is EASIER?
- Which has a better support community, should I ever have any questions or anything
- For which one are more options available, such as skins, mods/hacks, graphics, etc.
- Are there any highlights that one has over the other, such as one feature that one has that the other doesn't?
Thanks... ALL input is appreciated!

They're both very good boards. I guess choosing between those two comes down to personal taste. I personally use phpBB since they've been around a lot longer and there are tons of hacks/mods for it. Their community is great as well.

I switched from phpBB to Invision Boards.
My reasoning was the mods I had to apply to phpBB to match the defaults of Invision Board.
THough everyone says phpBB is easier to mod, I personally found the DB template based approach in pieces easier to customize them editing large template files.
Also the admin Control Panel is alot more thorough with IBF.
Only down side with IBF, it is more corperate and they don't support the community and its mods the way phpbb does. phpbb has adopted many mods from its community. IBF notes the good ones but designs its own so the community doesn't get a boost for its large efforts.
phpBB mods come out alot faster, and they see to work a bit better on their first releases.
Hope that helps you out.

If you are looking at a free forum, then go with phpBB. Its highly moddable. An example of a highly modded phpBB board can be seen at
