Website Idea
My website idea (which has now gone wrong) was to build a site where all the template designers would come together and when a person asked for a template it would e a contest for the web designers to make the best design
I wonder why this went wrong. Maybe just lack of advertising?
I did post an advert on this website under 'Market Place'. If you say this post, please reply to this thread saying what you thought when you saw it.

It probably didn't work because all of the "good" template designers are busy designing templates for money and don't have time to get into contests.

Now, if the contest was for prize money, then I think you'd have more involvement.

It is for money. The winners get paid from the client.

I'd also think that good designers wouldn't want to bother spending time on something they may or may not get paid for.
Too small a range of advertising could be a problem as well. You may need to take a broader appraoch.

What about getting a stable of designers, like a web design temp agency, and promote around your city/the internet. You would just find good designers, and get them jobs, and take a small cut along the way.

Why not target up and coming template designers instead of template designers themselves.
You would have to advertise/promote in different places, probably more offline than on (schools etc), this way you are helping the up and coming and if you do it right you could get recruiting places using you as a source.
Some problems I can see with this idea, if it is for up and coming only, how do you tell between old and new, how do you get paid from it (suppose you could charge the recruiter), templates canbe very graphic intense, especaily if flash is used so your costs as far as bandwidth and stuff goes could get pricey as I doubt you'd make much within the first six months while building it up.

heebiejeebieclu, I basically mean that you should become a design pimp. Pimp out your design prostitutes, and take a cut.
One thing you could do to get clients is go to various sites that have subpar layouts and offer a redo... designers are a dime a dozen, or find the authors of templates you like from template sites, and try and "acquire" them.
