I am trying to validate a site (HTML 4.01 transitional) and can't because of a non-SGML character. I am using • (the and sign, the pound sign and 149 and semi colan) and need to know what the alternative is for this that will validate.

Can anyone help with this?

Why don't you just use an Unordered List?

<UL>
<LI>foo
<LI>bar
</UL>

& = &amp;
£ = &pound;
; = &#59;

149 as in numbers? &#49; &#52; &#57;

dont think there is one for the black dot, but if you use symbol font their is, other wise use an image

WHEW!! Finally found one.

& #8226; looks the same as & 149; and it validates.

I know this post seemed trivial to you all but it was important to me.
thanks anyway:D

DOH, sorry I just figured what you said before, I thought you wanted what you were using *boy do I feel stupid*, sorry it was early, during first cup of coffee

did &#149; not work ? check what you found on all browsers, not all except the number value, so I think the general rule for saftey is if you cant find the word tag for it, use an image as you can get some really weird effects in browsers that dont support them.

** to write the tag out you have to put &amp; whatever for it to appear**

I think I better find that other post I made around the same time lol, think I might have to stop doing mornings Laughing out loud
