I am looking for the unusual -- some might say unfindable web widget -- to round out a little catalog. Your ideas are much appreciated, the harder to find, or completely "unfindable" the better.

Now I'm not talking about an unusual style of the visit counter, or button (button maker), or tool tip. You will have to think on along a different dimension.

So Visitor 8374857 would not qualify, but 57 Visitors Became First Time Customers, Saving An Average of $37.42 would. A calendar archive of past messages or blog entries would not qualify. A calendar archive which uses preemptive hinting by marking the more popular or hot discussions, would qualify.

Fifty or so similar ideas would be nice, so feel free to submit several.

May I ask why you're looking for these ideas? Are you interested in developing them further or what?

Certainly, if I can determine some interest in an idea, I would like to develop it in some form. Ideally, five or ten people would also think it interesting enough to, say, combine a couple of different ideas. Or to take differing perspectives on an idea and create two, or three different interpretations of the same idea.

As to the larger "reason why," compare what is to my examples. Quite frankly, I don't see why I should be the only one interested.

No, I wasn't questioning your interest, just curious really Smiling I can't think of anything right now but I'll see what I can come up with. I known there have been times in the past when I haven't been able to find what I was looking for Smiling

Essentially the examples show use centered design.

Thermal mapping of weblogs uses the concept of hot and cold to telegraph (preemptively hint), instead of having a calendar you must blindly click on hoping to get lucky. Other applications: forum threads, catalogs.

Ideas could include how to show side-by-side comparisons of products. Or any one of hundreds of ideas for basic web goodness.
