unable to view vid clips placed on webpage...
could anyone give advice on how to place a .avi vid file onto a website without having excessive page load times which would allow either immediate buffering and playing of the file?
i have just placed a .avi file onto a webpage that is about 296megs at about 1 minute & 20 seconds long, yet it takes almost a half hour to page load and view the file. any pointers or tips? do i need some type of compression or video playback utility software? i think my webhost may have given me a VPN type of webspace, any advice?
appreciate any info.

296 megs!!! On dial up that would take a day or two. A good sized site is no more than 80 kilobytes, that file is a billion times bigger than it should be. I would compress that thing to 5 megabytes, anything lower would load faster, what is it about anyway?

A *good* webmaster would NOT have the file embedded in the page. Link to it with a text link and/or image and include the file size in the description.
That way they can choose to download and view when they want. They can go have coffee or something while they wait for that massive download *IF* you give them a choice.
A good webmaster/developer/designer will always give the end user a choice when it come to mutimedia files.

If you're going to embed video, use a different file format, such as mpeg -- you can import it into Flash as well.
Offering a set of choices is good. Flash will allow you to have it in the page as well as offering choices, but it's probably easiest to allow linking to download the file.
