Translations for Website Content

I have a site that is viewed by 27 different countries. The client would like to add some translation capability.

What has been webmasters' experiences in offering translation of pages on a site? What are your suggestions - products or site services that offer translation? Of course, financial resources are limited for my client.

My client has seen a site that is using the AltaVista Babel Fish Translation service through using a link on their site. What have been experiences with this? Is the translation tool's accuracy?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can use Google's Translation tool...I don't know about other languages, but it does pretty well with German.

If you are doing a professional web site hire a translator to do the translations. You don't want to run your text through Altavista and your potenial client is turned away by the improper usages of words because of the computer automated translation.

It really depends on the tool and the language. If you don't have time to code chinese characters, and Google makes an efficient, although sometimes awkwardly worded, counterpart...suffice to say it will be acceptable.

HI Kyle and Troy1960!

Thanks for your info. I have had difficulty finding any discussion on website translations.

Healthy regards,

Teresa
