Tell-a-friend referals
Hi, Im fairly new to all this, So i need your help. I've been thinking of a good way to market my site and I have been doing a lot of reseach. I think tell-a-friend is a great way to increase my hits, but ive got a few questions.
Has anyone heard of SiteTell.com? Im thinking of using their service, as its fairly cheap and has heaps of features. Has any one heard of them?
Also does anyone know much about seach engine ratings?
Thanks
Ben Rowe

Welcome to TWF Ben, why not stop by the intros forum and tell us something about yourself
I've not used that service, however if you are wanting to use it with the aim of getting more traffic I wouldn't count on it. I really don't think that people use them.
As far as search engine ratings, post your questions in the correct forum here.

I beg to differ... an e-commerce site i manage called Speeding.co.uk. has a custom reccomend-a-freind script that i programmed and we've been tracking it and it gets LOTS of useage (normally 20-30 reccomendations per day!!)
It works if it's activly implimented in a site, however just having "click here to tell a freind" on your hompage won't do much for traffic...

I suppose a lot of it depends on the actual content, usability, naveigation of the site, etc. but the site has to be found before it can be referred.

If you can host your own php or cgi scripts, why not use a free resource to Recommend your site...
http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
and
http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
can give you any type of script that would fufuill your purpose... (cant speal tonight)

Another one I have seen a lot on various sites is Recommend-It which doesn't require you to have anything other than a link on the page to a form hosted with them for the user to complete and they run various competitions as well.

I use Recommend-It -- they have a nice giveaway each month of $10,000 to someone to refers a site. That said, you should get better results with a custom script like Tyler referenced to because those are less cluttered and complicated from a user's perspective.
