Suggestions? (easy to maintain site for artist)
I have a buddy who is an artist and is opening a studio. He does several different types of art. He's real good at portraits on canvas and tattoing but does other things as well. He wants a site to represent his work.
Here's where the advice is needed...He really isn't too computer literate AT ALL but yet he'd like to write updates in his art world and upload pictures, post specials and sales, etc. So a hand made site from me is out of the question. One wrong press of a key or ftp overwrite and he can goof it up.
What do you guys suggest? I need something that is pretty versatile as far as me being able to design it the way I want. I need something that will allow him to post updates and stuff without the need for too much computer knowledge. I need something that won't allow him to harm anything.

What about a wordpress (or other) blog? There might be some photo management plugins that would help to manage his collection too. For some sections you could use the blog and others separate pages created in wordpress.

Cool thanks. Is there any chance you can post a link to a site using word press and mixed in with "normal" pages so I can get some ideas?
Also he may want to sell stuff via online (not sure). He also has in mind some chinese type art he'd like for a background/some graphics on the site. Word press is that versatile that I can add my own touch via CSS or something?

You could use wordpress in conjunction with flickr. All he would have to do is upload the pictures to flickr, then use the 'blog this' link to send the content direct to your wordpress installation using the XML-RPC interface (all comes as standard with wordpress).

Yes you can pretty much edit any wordpress theme with your own css and images, and there are some plugins to allow you to sell stuff. You need to just start learning about wp...
