Spidered Links
Hi Again guys.
I have put up 2 new pages on my site, my site has been spidered at least twice since the pages were put up. Anchor text also linked from my index page. When I look in the error logs I see that they show up as 404 errors cant be found? I know they are there and the url is correct. Can anybody explain this?
Also how can you stop or clear or some how stop spiders looking for files no longer there or have had file names changed that have been indexed? If for arguments sake I have a file called abc_def_.php that was indexed and now have renamed it abc-def-.php the original shows as 404 error how can I avoid this as its the same file but now re-named.
I see quite a few in my 404 error logs that I know the url is there but they show as 404 errors:confused:
Regards
Padi

set up a redirect in your htaccess (I think its called a 301 redirect). That way if anyone goes to your old page (including search engines) they get moved to your new page straight away - its the best way to help search engines when you move a site or pages to a new URL and minimizes any lost SE Juice from moving pages.
Eventually though the SEs will figure out the page has gone and stop trying to find it, but if there are external links to that page then a redirect is the best option.

Hi Linx
All got a little complicated when you started to give me your answer, but they have noe been indexed by Google on the 3rd spidered attempt. Its something I must keep an eye on.
