someone is using my email
hello,
I recevd a bunch of bounced emails into my POP3 account that were sent from an email that I do not own.
Ie I use the email [email protected] and someone sent a bunch of spam using [email protected]
So since I have a general mailbox all the bounced emails are getting sent to my inbox.
I am concerned that someonbe will eventually complain about spam and I have no way of proving that I didnt send the emails.
Does anyone know of a way to report this so I can stop this from happening?

Something similar happened to me awhile ago - a spammer used my actual email address as the reply address in his phishing emails. I got quite a few bounced replies in my junk mail box.
Do you have the email header from the bounced emails? You should be able to see this text if you go to options on most mail cleints and look for "email header".
If you copy and paste the code onto this thread I'll see where the IP address is registered. It'll probobly be in a different part of the world from you, so not to worry about the ISP thinking your the spammer.

If you have a good hosting company, they will be well aware that this happens a lot, and are not going to shut down your account becasue one or two people report that.
It is just an annoyance of having a domain name. I had a domain name that at one time peaked at about 1200 messages a day due to all the bounced mailed that was sent out to bad e-mail addresses and used my e-mail as the sender. Message filters will become your friend

Thanks guys. I didnt think I could get into trouble since it wasnt coming from my isp. Just a cost of doing biz online I guess.
