Server load averages, above 6 bad?

Hi all, we are considering moving our company web site to a new hosting service and I have an account on the new host that we are using to test some trial cart software.

I set up a cron job that run uptime two times a day and emails me the output. Most of the time the load averages have been below 2 (it is a dual CPU server) but one of the uptimes show a load average of over 6. Just curious how that would affect the experience of a customer trying to view out site if it was on this server.
