runaway bandwidth
I've had this small site consistently for years never once going over 250meg of bandwidth per month. This month I was shocked when I got a bandwidth limit exceeded message where my site should have been. I checked my WHM and it showed that I went over 1000megs in just 11 days! So I increased the limit to 2000 on Friday just 24 hours later I was shut down again, saying I exceeded the new 2000meg limit. That equated to 1000meg in one day, for a small site that previously never went ove 250 in a month. I checked my logs and I've only served up about 50 pages total (no big files) in that 24 hours, and in general I see only 15% page view increase over the past month.
Last month I averaged 132 views per day (small potatos) and September is showing an average of 164 views per day. This doesn't even come close to acounting for the drastic bandwidth increase.
Is there anything that can be accounting for this other than increased visitors? How can I check? How can I stop it?

Sounds like your server is being used for spam.

I don't know much on the server side but how does that work? Like somebody's routing their spam thu my server or something? And if so, what can I do to prevent it.

Most likely you can't, the server administrator would need to patch it. However, if you're using any in the can form processor, remove it.
I strongly suggest you get the server admin to check the mail if your raw logs for browser traffic aren't showing anything.

Yes, it does sound like someone is using your server for something. Might be spam, might just be routing or something similar.

When you check your logs check that for files views not just pages view i already saw something similar because someone post ed some link to some images on my site in a popular forum. if this is the case you can see wich one by checking the referrer logs.
IF , ELSE , WHILE isn't that what life is all about

Not sure if this would apply to you but I read recently about someone with this problem who was running a small database on their site that had got stuck in a loop calling a non existant file. ( my knowledge of such things is to low to make sence of that )

Also, it can be a CPanel issue. Check with your host to see if there has been any such issue with other websites on the same server as you are on.

They claim I was actually using all that bandwidth. But funny how as soon as I mentioned the problem to them it tailed off. Since I mentioned it I did my first ever mass mailing and got 10 times my normal traffic for the week.... but I only went thru a few hundred megs of bandwidth. Hmmm. Funny how the week before I was using up to 500 megs PER DAY with only 1/10th the traffic.
Well the leak seems to be haulted but it's still a complete mystery to me as to what was happening before. Oh well.
