I run a blog www.ukbeautysalons.info which also has a small directory at /directory - I would now like to take the site to the next level and make a real community of it including Forum where 'general public' can discuss everything beauty salons related, plus a private section for salon owners to discuss stuff, I also like the idea of salon owners being able to add their own articles, I currently add Salons articles manually,
I really want to go for it and build an incredible resource
I saw VB and started researching it when I then came across your article which was very interesting (thank you) have things moved on since then?
Could you please give me your thoughts regarding what might me a good platform for the community element of my site - I have set up my blog and directory but not got involved in a forum or stuff like that before
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hi Leonardo,
We are running this site on Drupal. The forums are a bit of a challenge to set up at first, but it gives us the opportunity to really customize things the way we want them. We can arrange the design differently, offer the features our users need most etc. We can also integrate the design with our content site (A Padded Cell).
We have lots of knowledge about Drupal here, so if you decide to give it a try you can always post here for help.

Thank you, I will give it some more research, only used Wordpress to date and have not really looked at Drupal.

vBulletin have fixed their tables for layout problems, it's still not particularly modular and Drupal 7's admin interface now blows vBulletin's out of the water IMO. Setting up a Drupal forum is still a bit of work and doesn't come with as many features as vBulletin, you should use it if: 1) you don't need all the features of vBulletin (not all that many sites do), and 2) you want to run your whole site on a single platform.
The ability to run your whole site on just Drupal is its biggest advantage. Just one piece of software to update and manage and no license fees.
