question
when websites have a member login/password in the main page of their site, is this just usually copied and pasted from their php forums?

Depends if the login is for the forums or if its for restricted parts of the site (member only sections).
Some sites have seperate login for members area and forum, other don't.

ok i mean if you have a forum, you can have people register for it on your homepage, by just cut/pasting the login area from the forum

yeah as long as you copy and paste all the right bits (database connection, any forwarding [emails etc] ...)
Some forums, when you sign up take you to a page where it says something like "you have signed up and have been sent an email, use the link to register ..." or whatever so you'd have to make/modify a section on your site to enable this if used.

phpbb has heaps of files with bits included all over it, unless someone here has done this before might be easier to check out the phpbb.com forum and see if someone else has done it or ask the experts
