Although I really recommend against it, you might want to try Javascript Kit.
If you're ever going to have music playing on your site, always include an option for people to stop and start the music.

The key thing is you do NOT want to do that. Many people like me will just leave your site immediately if they do not see an easy way to shut off sound. Many people browse the web from work environments (hopefully all during "breaks
I myself have had times where I forgot that the night before once everyone left, I had the speakers turned up quite a bit, then hit a page with audio and suprise the crap out of the others in my office as well as those in the area outside of my office (yeah, I crank it up

Let's just say that I never surf the web with the speakers on. Just the mouse click sounds bothers me. If you want sound, use it. If we don't want to hear it, we can turn off our speakers. Lets face it, the speakers are useless unless you play games and/or listen to music, and most importantly, for the visually impaired.
Above is a round-about way of getting to this conclusion:
If people like the minor sounds, but don't want to hear your music, give them the option to "stop the music/sound" on your site like Greg K. said.
P.S. Greg, don't forget to turn down your speakers at the office tommorow, before you log on...

I have to agree that is a terrible idea. As both a webmaster and web surfer, I can't stand it when you don't have the option to turn off the music. That, and it should store the info in a cookie that the music is off. I also hate having to stop it on each page individually.

I think sites with music are virtually pointless. They take up that webmaster's disk space, bandwith, and they irritate me. A lot of times I'll listen to music on my computer, and it's annoying to come across a site with some stupid music playing in the background...

And then I remember the Bouncing Robot Thing again with all that noise...
