proxy websites
Ive seen alot of proxy websites around. What is the point and why would you use it. Would they reduce the possibility of you getting viruses or trojans..etc while browsing the internet?

They're pretty much used to mask your ip address, if you're banned from websites via ip address, you can browse it by going through a proxy or use it for any other reason in which you can't do something via your current ip.
pr0gr4mm3r is right too, a lot of people do use them to bypass internet restrictions from their offices etc.

But they are also used to apply restrictions. For example, in schools all the internet connections go through school proxies that filter all the pages for content.
