Greetings, I have been following a tutorial found at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=280652 to convert videos to flash for better compatibility online. The only problem is when I try to convert a WMV file to FLV, it strips out the sound. Here is the output the command gives while encoding:

FFmpeg version SVN-rUNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard
  configuration:  --enable-gpl --enable-pp --enable-pthreads --enable-vorbis --enable-libogg --enable-a52 --enable-dts --enable-libgsm --enable-dc1394 --disable-debug --enable-shared --prefix=/usr
  libavutil version: 0d.49.0.0
  libavcodec version: 0d.51.11.0
  libavformat version: 0d.50.5.0
  built on Sep 20 2006 00:26:15, gcc: 4.1.2 20060906 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.1.1-13ubuntu2)
[wmv3 @ 0xb7defba8]Header: 4FF90A01

Seems that stream 1 comes from film source: 1000.00 (1000/1) -> 29.97 (30000/1001)
Input #0, asf, from 'SwapLoader_FullVersion.wmv':
  Duration: 00:09:29.1, start: 3.000000, bitrate: 599 kb/s
  Stream #0.0: Audio: wmav2, 44100 Hz, stereo, 89 kb/s
  Stream #0.1: Video: wmv3, yuv420p, 320x240, 29.97 fps(r)
Output #0, flv, to 'output.flv':
  Stream #0.0: Video: flv, yuv420p, 360x288, q=2-31, 200 kb/s, 20.00 fps(c)
Stream mapping:
  Stream #0.1 -> #0.0
[wmv3 @ 0xb7defba8]Header: 4FF90A01
Press [q] to stop encoding
'

It says the audio channel is WMA v2, and according to ffMPEG's documentation, this format is supported. If anyone has any tips or a better program for converting, please share them. Thanks in advance.

I remember finding a stand-alone FLV converter sometime last year but I don't remember what it was called. Do you have access to a windows box at all or would you prefer to do this only through Ubuntu? I'm guessing that tool was windows only but you never know...

I would prefer a Linux application, but I do have a dual-boot, so a WinXP program would work since I don't do this every day.

I did find a way to get this file converted. I used http://www.zamzar.com/. It's a cool site that converts files from one format to another. This site is good enough for me for now, although I am still searching for a program that will do it on my computer.

Here's what I've been using to convert video files to FLV: http://www.swishzone.com/index.php?area=products&product=video

It's inexpensive and works great. It even produces the flash file that holds the video controls.
