A great book i use is 'PHP for the World Wide Web' written by Larry Ullman.

I'm sure a search on Amazon or whatever will find it.

It's a no nonsense book, simple to understand and most of all it's in plain english!

They probably assume some programming knowledge, maybe you could try searching for a programming introduction then look at how that relates back to PHP... Or have I got it completely wrong and you already know C etc?

The book assumes you have no programming language.

It actually says that in the introduction.

That's a very good book. I have read the first couple of chapters and I already understand a lot of PHP.

That counts, if you didn't know HTML - and tried to learn PHP...It would be like taking a trig class before algebra.

I still can't find any good tutorials. I found a few that teach me the bare basics, but other than that I can't find any. Most are just too hard to understand (I'm not stoopid, just an idiot) so any simple tutorials would be great!

The W3Schools have some great beginner PHP tutorials.

Remember anything is difficult the first time you start it.

Start slowly, take your time and keep at it.
