Password Protect My Beta Website
Hello,
I will be shortly putting up new website but I dont want it to be accessible to all till i complete it all aspects.
So i would like to know a way such that when someone types in my domain a Password box pop-ups and only those with access to the password are given a view of my Beta Website.
I would like the suggestion to be as simple as possiable since I am not a programmer but a Web Business Manager.
Hope u get it

Hi webguru,
There's a very good one at:
http://www.cgi.veinotte.com/member_manager.htm
Please note that your server must be able to accept .htaccess and cgi/perl.
The limited edition can only protect one directory but the purchased/license version can protect as many directories as needed and using one username/password have access to the other protected directories/folder.It can also co-exist with the free version if you decide to buy it later.
I installed it for a client the license version as they needed it and it's working fine without any problems.
hope this helps.

You can also use plain .htaccess and .htpasswd

If you really want a cheap easy way to do it....
Just put and index.html on the site that has nothing to do with your site ...maybe "under construction" or something.
Then hide your real site under a different name, and give the url for it to only those that you want to be able to see it. I have used index.htm for a index page that is in beta, and then when you are ready to launch your beta...just delete index.html and your index.htm will work as your new main page.
Just a thought
Hope that Helps!
