Page Ranking
Lots of people just starting out, wonder how to get a good page rank. You don’t do it through most link mills, like web rings, links for free sites, and most link exchanges. More than likely you are just adding to their PR. You do it by linking to sites with similar, or like content to your own. I would not recommend getting a link from a site, that will give you a reciprocal of less than a 3 PR.
Most of these sites will require a link on one of your pages, but linking to good sites pays off. But it’s not your link to them, but theirs to you that counts. Similarly posting on some message boards will give you a PR boost. But how do you find out which ones?.
I found a program that does it for you, I tried it out and it works. It’s called “PR Prowler”. You enter a few relative keywords, and let it go to work. I found two, or no more than three words work best. You can always make several searches, instead of trying to get all in one. The download is called a trial, but is a restricted free version limited to 20 results at a time. The reason I guess two, or three word searches work best with it. I found links I would have probably have never thought of, or found. Anyway the link is:

Steve, how best can you encourage a site with PR at least three to link to you, assuming you are new and have no page rank?
Other than having a good site, of course.

Getting high rankin sites to link to you is not a matter of you PR, unless it is a link exchange. Those I have tried, and have never had good result from them.
Download the program I mentioned above, and follow the directions. You will find sites that will link to you, if you of course will return the favor.
Sometimes if you are lucky, you will find a few that do not require a link from you. The four links showing at the foot of my home-page, are high ranking sites. In my category of course. But I submitted to a PR 7 this morning that did not require a link. But the four I do have, raised my potential PR to a 4. This all depends on when Google decides to rate it. They are the slow cog in the wheel, involved in your PR.
# Sorry in being so long replying, I over looked the thread.
