Aha! I shall use that excuse also, in fact the boss is on holiday so might just get an opportunity to sneak on there without anyone noticing... Am only on secondment for this programming job at the moment, if I screw up then after the 6 months is up I'll be busted back to my admin role... Long and the short of that is: I have to be a good boy! Smiling

From one of the photos "The color of love, the color of life. Red is beautiful!". That's why they should hire Canadians!!

The first half of the chat was with Jon S. von Tetzchner , CEO. NOthing too too interesting in there. He did say that they're not looking at doing extensions, and they don't look at FF extensions for ideas - they prefer to innovate on their on.

Håkon Wium Lie (inventor of CSS and Opera CTO) is in now. He says "Also, I like fightging Microsoft" Laughing out loud

Hmmm... need ot think of a good question for him. Already asked what standards they're supporting in the next version but it didn't make the main chat. Jon did say that they're working on better compliance with ACID2 (even though their compliance is by far the best as it is).

Am reading this after the fact b/c had to go to appointment & meeting. Some highlights:

Q: can you express your feelings about William Henry Gates the 3rd?

howcome (Haikon Le)I've never met him. I had lunch with one of his men, Ballmer, though. I believe they are hardworking successful man that, unfortunately, not have accepted the responsiilities that comes with their size and power.

Q Did you (or: will you) implement support for CSS3 selectors in the new (Opera 9?) core?
howcome I should know the answer to that one, I'm afraid the deatails are slipping me at the moment. CSS3 Selectors is one of the most mature CSS3 modules and I think we should support it. (MJ: !!!)

Q Will Opera ever have something like iCab browser which shows a crying smiley face when a page contains invalid code? That would let users know about which sites are better and would also give the devs an impulse to follow the standards.
howcome Actually, I implemented that feature in the Arena browser (now historical) in 1994. I think it's great and have been suggesting it internally. However, there are thousands of good ideas, but only that many developers.... MJ: Can you imagine???

Q: I am wondering, what do you think the world would be like without microsoft?
howcome: a better place, I believe. Although windows, word, powerpoint and other applications have made computers easier to use for many, I consider the PC -- as MS developed it in the 80/90s to be a dead end. Only the internet saved it, and we didn't need MS for that. (MJ: interesting!!)

Wow, Megan! Wish I'd been there but the rest of the afternoon being manic at work.

Thanks for the information though, interesting stuff! Am intrigued by their outright condemnation of Microsoft though. Ballmer's the real head of MS these days so it's not as if he's just spoken to some lackey! Smiling

Here's an interview with Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner. There's a some interesting stuff about security, how they see their place in the market, and standards/accessibility.

Hes talking a lot about phones and set top boxes, Does this mean that we could finaly get proprer internet browing on our tvs. This is very exiteing opera on your tv.
This does produce some chalenges for developers like resolution and screen size.
