I have a forum on my site at the moment that doesn't use MySQL and the likes, called pblang. It's ok but a little bit complicated for my mates who just want simplicity! Are there any PHP based forums out there that don't use databases and are very simple to use? I would like a registration feature plus all the usual admin functions. Cheers, Rodz

The PbLang that i have now is a good forum but i just want a simpler one for my not-so-computer-literate friends. Where its clear where you have to register, post new topics, reply etc.

Here are some good forums...

http://www.vbulletin.com/ - probably the best forum of all, costs though.

http://www.phpbb.com/ - best free forum in IMHO.
http://www.invisionboard.com/ - this one is good too.

Thanks for the links, but all of these need MySQL, which is the problem that I have!Confused

You know the message board that you can use with frontpage extensions? I'm looking for something as basic as that but you need to reqister with a valid email address. Cheers.

Flat file database forums require too many server resources. You will not find many examples of this sort of forum.

You could examine a commenting system (like for blogs), but registration wouldn't be included in those.

For the most part, to use registration, a database is preferred.
