Mozilla apps freeze on Vista Home Premium - due to Chrome?
Firefox and Thunderbird stop working.
Firefox will just show loading status, never completes.
Thunderbird will say "folder is being processed"
I close and restart Thunderbird
Even after I close Firefox, I usually need to go in the Task Manager to kill the firefox.exe process before I restart it.
I am using newly installed updates of the latest versions.
My perception is that these problems started around the time I installed Chrome.
I do not have these problems with other apps.
[EDIT]
I used CCleaner and it has fixed the Windows Explorer and Firefox and Thunderbird problems. see: http://www.webmaster-forums.net/computer-help/wow-ccleaner-made-my-machi...
I also stopped using Chrome - but I suppose I shall test sites in it...
However, Windows Explorer frequently craps out, and I need to kill it and restart it in Task Mgr - when I Googled this problem, the solution is the one I use. This problem predates the installation of Chrome.

I have no idea what may be causing this problem.
Have you tried starting up in safe mode?
Does Vista even have a safe mode?
Anyways, if Explorer craps out have you tried another file manager like xplorer2 found Here. I have not used it but it came up on google as #1 for free file manager.
Also if firefox is crashing you could try Flock, which is the firefox core with a few mods. It's supposedly faster too. Flock is found here.
If you think the problems came from Chrome you could try uninstalling it only if you have the installer, just in case you need it again. Other than that I don't know what could do that, it is a very strange problem.
It is only Mozilla products and explorer though, that makes it all the more strange...

Yes Vista has a safe mode. It is a Windows OS.
I used ExplorerXP for a while, but many of these Explorer replacements use Windows Explorer, and stop working when it does.
I am pretty happy with FileAnt which is a multi-pane file manager, file viewer and more (it has built in ftp, which I never use) but when Windows Explorer craps out, my menubar becomes unusable, that is the main problem.
I have Flock and Gran Paradiso (some kind of FFox beta) but I use Firefox for development, particularly CSS work, and I haven't tried installing the addons I use in the other versions.
I like using Chrome for my Yahoo Mail and my meebo IM aggregator. I thought of uninstalling it, but I'm just sort of whining, besides, I would like to keep Chrome around for testing, some CSS styles display differently in Chrome than they do in IE or Mozilla.
