Length of a URL
Is there a length to how long a URL can be?
Is the length different for different browsers?

A top level domain can only be something like 26 charactes long. But after that, my guess it could go on forever.

Actually a top level domain name can be up to 63 characters now, but as far as a URL is concerned, i'm not sure.

I think it was in an ASP book of mine saying something about 2000, but they made sure that the reader knew this was not the smartest of things to do...

Internet Explorer has a maximum uniform resource locator (URL) length of 2,083 characters, with a maximum path length of 2,048 characters. This limit applies to both POST and GET request URLs.

Hi Keith, thanks for that
Anyway :
Domain Names have a variety of basic rules:
- Use only letters, numbers, or hyphen ("-")
- Cannot begin or end with a hyphen
- .com, .net and .org domain names cannot exceed 67 characters total
- Other domain names cannot exceed 22 characters, not including the extension
- Domain names are not case sensitive
- Domain names cannot include spaces
I was wrong, but close on the other domains though.

Before anyone says it, I know 63 + .com,.net or .org = 67

Cheers, Marc
