Interesting Statistic on Flash

I know using Flash extensively in websites is somewhat controversial, at best. I was reading through the Adobe/Macromedia Flash entry on Wikipedia, and ran across this interesting paragraph.

Quote: Flash as a format has become very widespread on the desktop market. According to NPD study, 98% of Web users have the Flash Player installed [4], with 45%-56%[5] (depending on region) having the latest version. Numbers vary depending on the detection scheme and research demographics.

The study, however, is hosted on Macromedia/Adobe's website. Also, they state, "2,000 participants, comprising a representative Internet sample responded to this survey." My question is, how do they know it's a "representative Internet sample"?

Interesting, nonetheless.

They will be able to tell how many computers have downloaded it anyway won't they?

So instead of getting the boring old 'download the flash plugin here now ...' I'll get an interesting one like 'you are within the 2% group who dont use our product, shame on you'

Those polls are always baised, go to an anti flash site/group (is there one?) and do the pool and the numbers would be opposite

Serves them right. If they don't care about catering to others then I am happy they aren't being indexed.
