Hey good people,
Just stumbled randomly upon your site and instantly decided made an account just to ask for advice. I want to make a website, a fun one for non profit, and have the web design perfectly pictured. Rather tragically, i lack even the slightest inclination of where to find help. I need to either; suggest the web idea to someone who is able to easily make it and would make such a site because they think its just soo freaking awesome, a good online company that would take my business to make side site, or to learn everything necessary that would allow me to create my vision myself. These three options, along with any others, are what i seek help with, and anyone who would be able to assist would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

As you said, you have a couple of options here. I think expecting a web design company to do this for free is probably out of the question. If a company like this is going to do pro bono (free) or reduced cost work, it would most likely be fore a compelling charitable cause.

Two options I would suggest are using a Content management system (such as Wordpress or Drupal), or starting with an online blogging service like Tumblr or Blogger.

The latter case is easier, and will get you up and running faster, but has certain restrictions in how the content is structured and what you can do with it. If your site idea would fit into a blogging format, something like this might be worth experimenting with. You will be able to experiment with the look and feel of your site a little bit.

Starting with a content management system would be a more difficult, but also more flexible option. Wordpress is a blogging platform - similar to tumblr or Blogger, but you have to buy server space and host it on your own domain. This is quite cheap, and many hosting companies will offer an automatic install of wordpress. You can then download themes (designs) and plugins to customize your site.

This is an easy way to get started with a site - you can get something that works fairly easily, and then learn about the different components and customize it as you go along.

Drupal is another content management option. Like Wordpress, you have to get your own server space. Again, many hosting companies offer automatic installation of Drupal.

The primary difference between Wordpress and Drupal is that Wordpress was designed to be a blogging platform while Drupal has been designed to serve a wide variety of functions. Wordpress is easier to get started with, but its flexibility is somewhat limited. Both have lots of free themes and plugins (in Drupal they're called "modules") available.

Which one you choose would depend on the needs of your site.

So i just realized i managed to spell 'site' wrong in the title, but thanks so much anyways for posting such a lengthy and helpful reply. Im looking into a few things right now, include those that you mentioned and might have stumbled upon the exact site i was looking for. SO while i may never actually need all that you wrote down, i leave a happier person knowing that someone was so willing to take the time to help a random stranger on the intwebsssssssssss

Well, I can tell you that there are plenty of site builders out there that can help you in building up your own website. Easy WebContent is one of them. It’s simple and easy to use and requires no downloads or external software. You can construct a complete website without having to use HTML coding. And their site builder comes with a variety of add-ons that can enhance your website.
Here’s another tip: you’re going to want to make sure that your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is being pushed. That will help drive more traffic to your site once you get it up and running. I know that EWC can easily help with that. You can go in and edit the key words that will help link back to your page.
Easy WebContent’s system is affordable and great, especially for startups and people looking to get their name out there. Hopefully this helped you in some way. And good luck!!

Plus when you are up and running (because you mentioned that you found what you were looking for) don't forget to do some SMO too, mot just SEO. It's extra traffic.
