How many people inadvertently type the .com of a .biz or .info domain name?

I recently sold the domain name azam.com. I own many of the other azam TLDs such as .biz, .info. .us and some of them are developed into fully-fledged websites. From your experience/know-how do you think there is a danger that I will lose traffic to azam.com - which I no longer own - if I use azam.us, azam.info etc.? I can stomach losing 0.2% but not, say, 2%.

Have studies been done to demonstrate how many people inadvertently type the .com of a .biz or .info site?

Not that I know of. I would think that you might lose very small amount, but major protions of traffic!

Why did you sell the .com version? We never use .biz etc for the main domains as they don't tend to do very well in the SEs (we tell clients to get them as forwards in case someone else buys their name!) and most people when guessing a domain will probably go for .com or .co.uk (or their local main one). Why would many people just hazzard a guess and type in azam.com?

Thank you very much for your feedback. I was extremely reluctant to sell azam.com, believe me, but I kept getting offered more and more money for it and finally couldn't resist the offer. The legal contract forbids me from disclosing the sum I received, but lets just say it is sufficient to buy an apartment in many countries. It just puts me in a conundrum now because I'm worried that using the other azam TLDs may mean I lose traffic.

Anybody know if research has been done into this please?

For a church site I maintain, we use the .org as the main site, for all the e-mails, etc.

We went and registered the .com as well becasue many people were typing in the .com for visiting the page or sending e-mail.

Seems that unless people were really used to it, or had it in front of them, they accidently do the .com

When I set up a site I always get the .com.au and the .com equivalent... a lot of people nowdays are too slack to type in the .au

If you had the .com I don't see why you would give it up, there not expensive and it is an asset to your business.
