Hasn't this been true for some time now, since before the merger even? I'm still using DW2 (and rarely at that) so I'm not positive.
The main improvement I'd like to see in HomeSite is the way it handles resources. I've always found the program to be a hog in that department. Couple that with a few Adobe apps and you are treading in dangerous waters.
HomeSite 4.5 at least acknowledged this problem. If you get into a low resource situation, a dialog box pops up allowing you to save&continue/ save&exit/ ignore&continue.
Better than freezing up I suppose but I'd prefer that they try to correct the cause instead of treating the symptoms.
In any event, I'd appreciate it if anyone who upgrades keeps us posted. I haven't always found HomeSite upgrades worthwhile. I remember uninstalling HomeSite 3.0 to revert back to 2.5 - I forget why now but it was not until 4.x that I upgraded again.

taff, I usually have Homesite, Photoshop, 2 IE windows and Netscape open with no problem. Of course, it helps to have 768M or RAM. True, it is a resource hog.
Mark Irving I have a mind like a steel trap; it is rusty and illegal in 47 states
I get those resource warnings a lot too (with 256 MB ram - will add some more eventually...). I don't know if I'll upgrade or not - it doesn't seem to me that these new features are things that I'd use a lot.
Is RAM hard to install at all? I'm guessing that it's not but I've never tried to fiddle with my hardware before... Would I be able to put it in myself with no problems?

Megan, it is probably easier to install RAM then it is to get the cover off. It can only go in one way and it is hard to break anything. The only thing you need to watch out for is static.

Yeah, that was a bad idea from the start. the only thing that really bothers me is that it won't run personal web server Which is really slowing down the PHP learning process... should I go for the home version or pro? I could probably afford home right now, but pro would have to wait... that's $350 canadian right there... plus shipping...
mairving - checked into the RAM. I might look into getting some locally so I don't have to pay the shipping ($13 US in shipping is about $20 for me)
You guys are just trying to get me to spend all my money
The main difference between the Pro version and the Home (why do they keep renaming those things) is that the Pro version will support multi-processors. Here is some additional info for you.
I, for one, am skipping this upgrade, both XP and Homesite.

Hmm, it appears that RAM has nothing to do with HomeSite's resource problems. I recently added 256 (giving me 512) and I still have issues
However, they DO claim that Win2K users are far less likely to have the problem. I wonder if XP falls in this category. What OS do you run mairving?

Interesting that DW now has a copy of Homesite that comes with it.
It looks to me that the main new feature is XHTML support.
Here are the new features.

umm, let me revise it then:

I'm suffering from RAM-envy here. I once thought 256meg was pretty darned good, probably about the same time I thought that 500mhz was light speed!

Why don't you add some more RAM? You can get a stick of 256MB Crucial for $27 USD with free 2nd day shipping in the US. No excuse any more.

Excellent! I will definitely do that.
ALright, enough of that sidetrack. Any more thoughts on HS 5.0? Is anyone here planning on going for the upgrade?

Megan, are you running WinME? Ugh, I am not surprised! It's time for an upgrade to XP, I say!

I'd be interested to see if it's worth it. I'm running 4.5.
