Hi,

Which hit counters do you all recommend and why?

Thanks,

Hey there

Back when I used to implement counters, I used to use the ones found at http://www.aaddzz.com

They worked quite nicely and they were fully customizable as to the appearance. The stats that they give for free were nice as well.

hope this helps!

I like Extreme, but its a tracker not a counter as such

Most freebie counters are just gimmicks, hit refresh and watch the hits increase, where as trackers only log one hit day per IP, you can also get some usefull details, scren size, operating system, where from (just interesting to know), where they came from, how many hits are unquie and reloads etc.

I only use the free Extreme service, but I think the pay one and other types can also tell you what pages were viewed, how long they stayed and probably what they had for breakfast Smiling

I personally don't like counters as not many ever actually look nice and does anyone actually believe the figures they show?? If you want to know how many visitors etc the site's had then statistics give you much more information. Does your host offer them?? The other alternative is to use the raw log files and run them through an analyser.

I would agree that counters show little.

Trackers, on the other hand, give much greater information. Pay particular attention to your 'referrers' as these tell you where you are getting much of your traffic from. If you maintain a number of sites, this can be extremely useful...
