I was wandering if anyone knows about the history of web development.
What were the first platforms to be used? Microsoft i imagine, using CGI?

Has asp been around the longest, or was there a scripting language before that - python and pearl how old are these languages and do they both use windows or can they use linux as well?

Baiscally what were the first scripting languages. both client and server, and what platforms dod they run on?

A few things:

- This will answer a lot about languages: http://www.levenez.com/lang/ - many of which were developed before the www came along.
- ASP is not a language. VBScript or JScript are two languages commonly used with ASP.
- There were way more platforms than just Windows and GNU/Linux over the past 20 years; Tim Berners-Lee used NeXTSTEP, for instance.
- Most language implementations (non-Microsoft) were widely cross-platform capable.
- Client-server software has been around much longer than the www as we know it.
