Help with protocol types

My referrals show these protocols (rather than http://)

IMAP: I know that's something to do with e-mail - does that indicate a link from my e-mail signature?

mailbox://

Can anyone give me a (basic!) explanation of these referrals, please?

My guess would be it's probably from like Outlook or Composer...
