Guestbooks that don't need a database...

I'm building a site for a school organization and was trying to implement a guestbook. However I'm having trouble choosing which ones to use. I'm looking for one that doesn't need to use a database, and I would also prefer ones without banner ads. I did a search and there are so many to choose from. The simpler it is in terms of coding the better because I don't know much about the programming side of the web. The guestbooks linked all use some form of CGI and PERL. I heard that I would need to give the CGI file to my host to get it to run. But upon logging into my account, there is already a CGI-BIN. Does that mean I can just drop stuff in there and get it to work that way?

There's also a bunch of others that I got off of Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=free+guestbooks+cgi&hl=en

Has anyone had personal experience with these? I know a lot of you are hardcore programmers and probably programmed a guestbook yourself whenever you guys needed to, but I'm sort of handicapped in that area. Well back to work on the 'graphics' aspect of it...

In addition, what free FORUMS do not rely on databases? I heard IKONBoard uses a flatfile???

Hi There,

I used E-Guest once of one of my site and its working perfewtly. Has common features, nothing too fancy, it's written in Perl and uses flat database file.
Moreover, it's extremely easy to customize:

Chack for your self: http://leungeric.com/eric/creation.php?CGI

(You can get it also in PHP/MySQL flavor but you don't want to, right?)

Best Regards,

I'm not sure if you want a remotely hosted guest book or not. It was a bit confusing. What features do you want to come with your message board? (Eg, IP logging, choice of colors, etc etc)

hehehe... Mark, you the welcoming party?

Adam, first post is to aid rather than request help, I'm impressed.

To clear things up a bit, I don't really care much about features. As long as they can enter in their name, email, and a comment I think that's good enough.

What I don't want is anything remotely hosted, database based, anything that has advertisements or anything that involves too much coding. I would like to configure it to match the look of the rest of the site. Yeah, I know, that's a tall order =D. Enigmatic's suggestions looks pretty good as of now. =D

You right, beggers can't be choosers =D

I'll take a look at them when I get up to that point. Thanks for all the help... still deciding on a design... which reminds me, I should ask people in this forum about the designs.
