Personally I have always thought the idea of a blog was as a personal place. It can be used as a business tool, but you've got to have something to write about first. Thinking how you can use a blog (or several) to make money is backwards in my opinion. You should start out with an area of knowledge or expertise that you want to share, if a blog is the right way to channel that knowledge then create one, if it's not: don't.

Thank you
Sorry for sounding suspicious, but Megan asked a question, you're not just asking these questions to increase post count are you? It's not really worth the bother, just to get a post in the Market Place. Honestly, Google currently thinks all our pages are the same, we may have a reasonable PR but the coding of this site sucks. Too much duplicate content you see.
*** EDIT ***
Oh, and our URLs suck too. No keywords.
I've fixed the URLs so there are now keywords in them, and sorted out the duplicate content. We should be far more search engine friendly now (although it's going to take a while for Google to re-index everything).
The key to making money through affiliate programs or other forms of advertising is traffic, which is simply the sheer number of visitors who arrive at your blog daily. In terms of affiliate marketing and SEO, the more visitors your website has, better are the chances or rather prospects of your products and services to be recommended from your website. Many first time bloggers automatically assume that once their blog is setup and they put a few posts on it, they will get some hits and regular readers. This is quite untrue. You won’t get any traffic if no one knows about your website. There are many different ways to market your blog and gain more visitors which will eventually allow you to make money through blog-based affiliate marketing. The use of blog traffic exchanges is one method you should consider.
