I will recommend phpBB forum software. I personally like the fit and finish of that forums which use this software. It will be easy for you to get help on it as this is very popular one and commonly used.

We're looking at Pun BB and Vanilla. Both are open source and standards compliant (as far as we can tell).
phpBB is the most popular free/open source solution, although they have had some security problems lately.

I would disagree. Personally I think Vanilla is far superior to PHPBB, mostly because it's not bloated and full of crap.
