email spoofed...

I couldn't decide which forum to put this in (and I'm a mod? yeesh!)Anyway, here's my sad story:

It looks like some spammer has spoofed my (personal) email address and used it to send out god knows how many penis enlargement emails. All I'm seeing are the hundreds of delivery failure notifications that bounce back... to me of course!

I traced both the Internet headers and domain/host of the site being promoted back to China somewhere and, email address being pretty much toast now anyway, filed a complaint with the "anti-spam" dept of the host (yeah right!)

If this garbage continues to roll in, do I have any alternative other than just ditching this address for another? I'm guessing not but thought I'd check here.

this happened to me a while back with a hotmail account, had 800 bounce backs. Hotmail staff reckon nothing could be done apart from tracking down the advertising firm that got the job from the company to "advertise" and make sure the person wasn't paid their commison.

You just have to hope none of the emails are reported to spamcop or similar as your host can become blacklisted and added to block lists.

it sucks

LOL - succinct but aptly put. My host were the first people I warned. All they can really do for me is give me a new email address. Heck, I've had the address forever - longer than my phone number! I'm attached to it! Everywhere I've ever registered and forgotten my password relies on this email account for my access Smiling

On the other hand, over 200 bounced emails have rolled in so far - I can't tolerate that for long.

it not very hard to do at all...all it takes is a hotmail account and outlook or outlook express...when you setup your outlook for that hotmail account, do all the normal things. then you can later go in and change the "from" and the "reply-to" ...some people will never know

i know that doesnt help, seeing as you checked the headers, but i thought you might want a little insight

I think that's how he did this:

If there is no answer on Google, then there is no question.

over 400 in the "bouncy department now" - surprisingly, 0 responses/complaints. I wonder how many sales I'm getting them?
