One of the big problems I encountered when I first started with Dreamweaver is that a lot of the books out there had a ton of irrelevant information in them to things that I didn't care about.

There is also a lot of sites that have the same "stuff" as well. My best recommendation for learning Dreamweaver 8 is to just play around with it. Use the information from some of the sites and if you buy books as reference material. Going to the main Dreamweaver site through Adobe.com is also a good resource as there are sometimes useful tips, and also some tutorials on there as well.

Good luck learning, and just remember if you mess something up playing around, you can always reboot or reload!

Oh, I also use XAMPP with Dreamweaver which allows me the opportunity to test and develop locally on my machine. This is a really neat feature as you can make a site, changes, etc. without wasting bandwidth, etc. and see the changes instantly if you are working with PHP / mySQL.
