Do not do this...
Yesterday, I thought that I would upgrade Homesite 5.0 to version 5.2. Big mistake. The upgrade installed fine but when I tried to open it, is asked for my serial number. I entered the serial number, it told me that it was an upgrade version and to enter my original full serial number. I did but it didn't accept it. So no matter what I tried I could not get it to accept the serial number. I contacted Macromedia, explained all of my problems and stressed the urgency of the situation since I couldn't use the product at all. After 24 hours, I have heard nothing at all from them. So I decided to remove 5.2. Removing 5.2 also removes version 5.0 from your system. So I had to reinstall 5.0 which ended up working.
So after a full day of not being able to use Homesite, I am were I was before.
DO NOT INSTALL HOMESITE 5.2
Why are companies making it so difficult for the consumer? Personal opinion is that it doesn't stop piracy it causes more of it since it would have been easier for me to find a cracked version somewhere and use it.

Thanks, I use homesite 5 also. Don't know what I would do without it.

I tried to upgrade to Homesite 5 but the site wouldn't even accept my credit card (and that was after I switched browsers three times until I was actually able to use the site!)

Hmm. I didn't even know there *was* an upgrade. I still see nothing there addressing the fact that the program is a massive resource hog - that's all I want them to fix really, otherwise I'm happy.

It is a resource hog and always has been. I don't seem to notice though since I have 512M or RAM on one machine and 768M on the other.

I don't find that more RAM helps a bit with HomeSite - it just consumes whatever you make available. Pair it up with another leaky app such as Adobe ImageStyler and trouble is bound to come
Heck, at least ImageStyler is a version 1 graphics app - what excuse does a hopped-up text editor have for being so resource intensive?

Yeah, another leaky Adobe program is ImageReady. When I have HomeSite 4.5 and ImageReady running, within 15 minutes I always get the 'Out of resources'-error in Homesite and ImageReady just crashes.
Not to speak of the combination of HomeSite and Delphi 5.0/6.0
btw: I'm still using HomeSite 4.5 because I don't like all the fancy 'improvements' Macromdia came up with for version 5.0.

Jack, what OS are you running? It sounds like W98 with the out of resource messages.
It's sad but it has now been over 48hrs. and my urgent plea for help to Macromedia support via email is still unanswered.

I *do* like the 2nd file directory window - probably the sole reason I upgraded.
I *despise* the "Edit Image with Fireworks" option coming up before "Edit Current Tag" on rightclick of an image - I'm pretty sure that was new with 5.0 and I'm still not used to it. I'm constantly opening Fireworks accidentally.
ooh, ohh! I also hate that when you look up images, it automatically filters between gif and jpg. What if I want both?
I'm sure there are more peeves. The day is young
