Credit Card Detail Storage

Hi,

I need to implement a credit card facility but would like to be able to carry out the transactions offline with a manual terminal.

My site is based around Joomla with Virtuemart and would liek to nknow if anyopne else has done this and what is the best (legal) way of doing it as I know there are guidelines for storing credit card details?
