Contest prizes - is this completely idiotic?
Okay, I have began a contest at my site, and I think the prizes are great, but maybe not so much for my forums. First off, I should say my forums (well, my whole site) is for webmasters. And the prize is either a free hosting package or a (.com, .net, .org, or .info) domain. Is that stupid?
I guess the reason I'm second-guessing myself is because, if they are coming to a webmaster forum, wouldn't they most likely already have a site? Let me know what you think...

No, actually, you might get a lot of people who don't. And besides, who couldn't use a free domain or some extra hosting space? Sounds find to me.

Okay, thanks for the reassurance. I figured the domain name made more sense, but I wasn't so sure.

IMO it's not stupid but is limiting.
I wouldn't enter a contest for hosting or a domain name as I have to many already, I would enter one for graphic work, SEO advice/help, or even possibly for someone to farm some work off on to etc though.
Having a contest where the option of a prize in many different fields would have way more impact and results. Or if you wanted more than one contest you could advertise in advance so people could look forward to one of a topic that interests them.
