OK,
I am working on a site for online counseling. I would like to set up a private chatroom on the site. I don't think the hosting company allows chat programs like this, but I could use applets. Does anyone have experience with chat rooms on a web site , preferable private (password needed, or I guess I could do this with the .htaccess). Thanks and please let me know what you suggest.

I really like what QuickChat.org offers. I use them, example here: http://sports-central.org/community/chat

You can register yourself as the Op and also register your channel - it's about as good as it gets for free.
