Blogs vs News Scripts

So without going into feature details, is there really a difference between the two? Both are used to eaily post the user's story to their website, easily, from any computer without FTP. I think Blogs are used more for musings, ramblings, and other random daily thoughts. News scripts are used less for pleasure then for less frequent announcements. But aside from HOW they are used, don't they basically do the same thing? Can't one use a blog to post newsworthy items, and use a news script to post about the funny dog you saw on the subway? Thoughts?

P.S. For one simple example of a news script, see http://cutephp.com/

They're more or less the same thing, however blog systems nowadays are more like scaled down CMS (content management systems) systems.

Really the term "blog" describes what the site *is* rather than how it's done. You could update a blog by manually editing the html if you wanted.

I think we may be agreeing but I'm not sure. I realize a blog can be done manually but I meant that it is only defined by it's purpose and nothing else. And since a 'news script' basically performs the exact same technological function (posting a list of little stories in a chronologically stamped order), it too is defined by its purpose.

From Webopedia: (n.) Short for Web log, a blog is a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.

I have an example. I contend that this page is NOT really a blog even though I use blogger to update it. It's just a simple list of quotes that I happen to have automated using blogger, and nothing more. On one hand it is of a personal nature and not announcements, but it's not quite like a diary either.

Just some thoughts.
