Web Design in a Nutshell - this book helps me a lot.
I read most web designing books and practice tutorials found in the internet. Practice makes perfect.

There are many books to learn web design.
I'll list out the best here:
1. HTML and CSS design and build websites by JON DUCKETT
2. Learning Web Design- A Beginners Guide to HTML, CSS, javascript, and Web Graphics by Jennifer niederst Robbins. Here the author itself is one of the first designers for the web.
3. Don't Make Me Think- A common sense approach to web usability by Steve Krug which is the most recommended book.
4. Responsive Web Design by Ethan Marcotte
5. Designing with web standards by Jeffrey Zeldman
These are some of the best books for learning web design.
