BBEdit Syntax Highlighting
Hi
I'm now travelling alot and as such doing a lot of work on my ibook. I need to update snippets of code now and again (Perl) therefore I am trying out a few editors. I've downloaded BBEdit and I am just wondering is there a way to change the colours of the syntax highlighting? I've got all my other editors down to the same colours for each function/syntax but I can't seem to find a way to do this in BBEdit? Any ideas?
Cheers

In the preferences, you should be able to set all the colours of the syntax? Unless you're using the Lite version. I'm not sure about demos. I think you can turn it off, too.

iBook = Mac, right? How many editors are there out there for Macs?

There is also TacoHTML which does a good job as a lightweight, fast editor for folks like me who don't need a lot of the power of BBEdit all the time. (Though I almost always have BBEdit open, I haven't upgraded to the OSX version, so I use Lite, which is discontinued, or TacoHTML for fast work when it isn't).
You can run DW as well, innumerable plain text editors, including those that come embedded in ftp software.

Looking up the BareBones site, there is also http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/index.shtml which is their generic text editor.
I don't use the validation functions often, instead I use the w3c ones.

I've purchased the full version of BBEdit but I still can't find the option to change syntax highlighting colours for Perl. Maybe this can only be done for the default XHTML (though I haven't found this option either).

Mark,
Mac OS X, yes. Of course, I could just fire up a terminal window and use vim but I do like a useable GUI when there is one around. I'm just going through my options to find the most suitable, and if there isn't anthing better I'll resort to vim.

Under the BBEdit menu, choose preferences. You *should* be able to edit the colours of the syntax and customize them there.
Since coloured syntax is available for Perl, I'd assume you could change it there. If I recall, it's in a weird location, but definitely in the preferences. I don't suppose you've read the manual? (Chapter 10) I believe it's "text colors". Page 174 in the manual, page 188 in the pdf file.

Hi Suaznne
Thanks for your help on this one. I did indeed read the manual but I still can't figure it out.
Here's what I can see when I click the colour button. I don't see an option to change the syntax colours? Only to switch it on or off? Am I missing something?

Ohh, you set the special custom colours in the preferences, not in the document.
