Artist/mp3 upload site questions
Hi,
Hoping you guys can help a real newbie get headed in the right direction here...excuse me if I don't use the right lingo here, but I'm doing my best!
My goal is to create a website where independant recording artists can showcase their Mp3's to the public. I have a WYSIWYG (Web EZ) program that I've used to create some pretty nice (but basic) sites so far but I'm getting into way deeper water here...
So really, I'm needing to create a form or series of forms where the user can upload all this info and create his/her custom artist page. I'll also need to password/username the pages so the artists can update the page themselves. I've seen CD baby, Audio Street and others have similar pages.
Is there any resources you guys could point me to to get me headed in the right direction?
Thanks a lot,
dyno

This sounds like a bit more than your current level of web mastering.
To do something like this (and to do it WELL and make it successful) I should imagine you'll need the following:
+ server side scriping abilities (php/perl/asp)
+ database admin abilities (MySQL, Access)
+ your own dedicated server (Linux, Windows?)
+ server management knowledge
+ a big marketing budget
I've been designing/developing websites for quite a few year's now and have done some pretty major projects and I'd say this would be stretching the limits of what I can do. Personally I think you'd be better starting with a smaller project or two while you learn the skills then move on to something like this.

Hey thanks for the reply...I figured that it would be way over my head at this point.
Let me ask you this...are there any downloadable generic programs out there that can do some of the things I described?
Thanks,
dyno

Have a look on these sites. Someone might have built something already:
