Are you a perfectionist?
By this, i mean...are you never happy with your work? Ever!
Basically, i've been doing my own web site this evening and i've spent about 6 hours on one TINY little bit of it just moving stuff 1 pixel etc, then changing to bold, back to unbold, back to bold etc. etc. The list goes on!
Sometimes i will get to the end of the project without having any of these tendancies and then i'll go away to get a drink or something, come back and absolutely hate what i've just done and restart. It's tiresome when you're trying to make money!
So i guess the point of my thread is, i'm not alone with this anal attitude to my work am i?
I think i won't be

I'm a perfectionist. I used to be really anal about my sites, but I guess I grew past that and now I'm just happy when it's online and looks okay to me.
Don't stress out to much about it, you are your worst critic after all.

I'm hardly ever completly happy with my work so I'll move on to something new but always go back to unfinished things that were getting me down...For me the hardest part are the graphics.

Mark me down for perfectionist
I can spend days finishing a new design/look and when its done and uploaded I go right back into "how can I change or make this better". Its a vicious never ending circle I tell ya

I'm generally a perfectionist as well. It sometimes get overlooked if I have a million projects going on at once, but generally I have to cut myself off at the end of a project. When I'm spending 25% of the time on 5% of the project, enough is enough.

I am, yes, but I've managed to break myself of a lot of it. Sometimes I'll still faff around with positioning things right or bolding or unbolding but usually I can call myself on it - i.e. is anyone really going to notice this? No, so quit spending so much time on it. It does really bother me when people point things out, so I am more perfectionist about things like that. Although there will always be people who don't like things for strange reasons (like this client the other day who didn't like my lovely purpley-blue and teal green colour scheme. "Change it to blue, please" )

I think most programmers are naturally perfectionists. I'm very anal when it comes to the loading time and file-size of my pages.
This can be a big problem since being hooked up on small unimportant things wastes time and money.
If I catch myself obsessing over something unimportant or focusing on one thing for more than 40 seconds or so I'll force myself to take a step back, ask wether it really matters in the long run, and continue.

Am I perfectionist too that I take too much time before figuring out how to code better for what Im trying to do, making perfect css and no internal div styles on the html, but I now tended to slow down. This is actually my rule... after 30 minutes of making something, I stop, walk in the garden for 5 minutes, go back with freash eyes, edit a little bit, then tell my friends to look at it, if they say it looks good and works ok, then Im satisfied... For cutomers, if they like it and others dont, I suggest the point of others, but I stick with what the client wants... They are the ones paying so I dont care what others feel about it other if it was really an issue...

I am far more worried about the security of my site, the "behind the scenes" programming. Just as long as what people see doesn't look like crap then I'm ok with it, and if it loads fairly fast.

I just came across this quote in a book I'm reading:

It's just a novel. That quote is really taken out of context but I thought it rung true.
Where do you all know each other from?

I always like Michaelangelo's quote: "Perfection is a thousand trifles. Perfection, itself, is no trifle, though."
I am a perfectionist, but I usually manage, after much wailing and gnashing of teeth, to get things the way they need to be. Then, days or weeks later, I will usually make some changes here and there.
PS - Hi, Davey... Hi, intruth! I bet I bump into a lot of people I know here, huh? Nice seeing you guys!

We know each other from V7N (I would never mention a competing board, but you asked).
I was a mod there until a week or so ago. The admin and I didn't see eye to eye on a particular issue so I decided it might be best to mosey on...
The good news is I have actually managed to get some work done this week! My design site will be up soon, as long as I don't get too addicted here!

Hi Michael, I just posted on your intro thread. Nice to see you here, sorry you had a conflict on the other forum. I haven't been there as much lately, but I did wonder where you had gone. This place is great, though! Welcome!

Perfectionist is an euphemistical way for me to say I'm a maniac. I also spend hours just for a minor tweak. Just when I am a bit pleased with my sites I just start working on them yet again, improving anf trying to make them even better. This has already taken a lot of my life
