I would say that it only has an effect if the client's contact information is there. Otherwise, there is no telling weather or not it's true. Also, showing their project is a + as well.

I never read them, I don't trust them, and I don't think very many people do. They're just too easy to fake. But there are still a few people that might be convinced by them, so have a couple, I guess.

Quote: Personally, I have a section of my site dedicated to case studies, and I have client testimonials in there. So it has the testimonial, an explanation of the site and a link to the site. That way, if someone reading the testimonial wants to actually contact that client, they can go to their site and find their contact info.

I think that works a lot better than just a straight page that says "Wow, xyz business is awesome". You're actually showcasing what you did specifically for them, and what they had to say about it.

Tim,

I work for a very large company and we have some testing on this and the findings that we had were that the impact was very little. They did not harm results at all. In my opinion it's more for your clients that you are spot lighting than the testimonial itself. It doesn't hurt but it doesn't really help either so if you can do it then do so but I wouldn't make it a priority either. Case Studies do much better then Testimonials too!
